Short answer: if you want AI built into your practice management, Clio and MyCase are well ahead. Clio includes its AI on Core and above (quote-priced), and MyCase includes AI from Pro at $100 per user per month billed annually, with a published price. PracticePanther is the cheapest and simplest (from $49 per user per month) and has the best review ratio of the three, but it doesn't advertise AI features in its plans.

Price: Clio's plans are Starter, Core, Signature and Elite. Only Starter has a published price: from $49 per user per month. The others need a quote. Elite bundles Clio Grow for client intake (Clio pricing).

AI: Clio's FAQ says AI is included "on Core and above," as part of the plan rather than an add-on. It drafts client updates, flags risks, prioritizes tasks and preps billing inside your matters, cites its sources, and you approve everything before it goes out. Clio says firm data "is never used for AI training." Accounting, including trust reconciliation, is included on every plan. Clio also owns Vincent AI for legal research (our Vincent guide).

What users say: 3.6 from 297 reviews (Trustpilot). Users praise the onboarding and training. But in August 2026, many reviewers objected to AI features being switched on without consent, and some reported a roughly 34% per-user price increase they attributed to AI. Other complaints mention cancellation and billing difficulties and QuickBooks sync errors.

Watch for: get a written quote, and ask what your price will be at renewal.

2. MyCase: best published price for built-in AI

Price (per user per month, annual / monthly billing):

  • Basic: $50 / $60. No AI.
  • Pro: $100 / $120. Adds the 8am IQ Writing and Document Assistant.
  • Advanced: $130 / $150. Adds the Case Assistant and the Discovery Assistant, which OCRs scanned documents (5,000 pages per user per month, then $30 per 5,000 pages).

There's a 10-day free trial, no card needed (MyCase pricing).

AI roadmap: at its September 2026 conference, MyCase's parent company 8am launched an official MCP connector for Claude with 73 actions across cases, clients, documents, billing and intake. It also announced Firm Agent, which answers questions across all your MyCase data with citations, and IQ Draft for templates. Both are due for beta in October and general release in December. Access to the connector may depend on your subscription tier (LawSites).

What users say: 2.1 from 327 reviews, with only 15 in the past year and no company replies to negative reviews (Trustpilot). Recent complaints cite slow support, billing and refund disputes, and file-sync problems. Treat the small recent sample with caution, but test support during the trial.

3. PracticePanther: best value without AI

Price (per user per month, annual / monthly billing):

  • Solo: $49 / $59
  • Essential: $69 / $79
  • Business: $89 / $99
  • Business Pro: $114 / $124

Annual billing saves $120 per user a year. There's a 7-day free trial with no card (PracticePanther pricing). The pricing page doesn't list AI features. PracticePanther's strengths are workflows, intake forms, billing and e-signature.

What users say: 3.8 from 73 reviews, 81% five-star (Trustpilot). Reviewers praise how easy it is to use and its helpful support. Complaints from 2026 mention renewal-timing pressure, an SMS glitch the company says it fixed, and a dated mobile app.

Pair it with: a standalone legal AI tool, such as those in our best AI tools for small law firms roundup.

Which should you choose?

If you… Choose
Want AI woven through practice management and research Clio (Core or above)
Want built-in AI at a published price MyCase Pro or Advanced
Use Claude and want it to work with your case data MyCase (MCP connector)
Want the lowest cost and simplest setup PracticePanther, plus a separate AI tool

Whichever you pick, check the ethics side first:

  • confirm the vendor's data and AI-training terms, as ABA Formal Opinion 512 expects
  • in California, check SB 574 before putting confidential information into AI tools
  • verify every AI-generated citation (sanctions cases)
