What happened: two AI phone-agent announcements for the trades landed in the same week:

  • Roofr, the roofing CRM and measurement company, launched an AI Receptionist for roofers. It's a $99-a-month add-on that answers calls 24/7, books inspections and logs every call in the CRM (Roofr).
  • Broccoli AI, which builds AI call agents for HVAC, plumbing, electrical, roofing and other home-service businesses, announced its Series B on October 28 (Broccoli). Tech Startups reports the round at $30 million, led by Khosla Ventures (Tech Startups).

Why it matters: roofing has been slower than HVAC and plumbing to get AI receptionists built for it. Now there's a cheap option inside a roofing CRM, and a well-funded option for bigger shops. Here's what each costs, how they compare, and what to check before you forward your phones.

As of October 29, 2026 (Roofr pricing, Roofr AI Receptionist):

Price $99/month billed monthly, or $85/month billed yearly
Included 200 minutes of calls a month
Over 200 minutes Calls keep being answered; Roofr says it doesn't currently charge for overages and will give notice if that changes
Contract and setup No contract, no setup fee, cancel any time
Free trial First 30 days free; billing starts on day 31
Roofr plan needed? No. It works on any Roofr plan, including the free Starter plan
Setup About 10 minutes; you forward your existing number to a dedicated AI number, so your trucks and signs don't change
What it does Answers 24/7 on your chosen schedule, screens spam, captures the homeowner's details, books the visit on the call, sends returning customers to a person, transfers callers who ask for a human
After the call Customer details, job card, appointment and a full transcript saved in Roofr; can trigger tasks, follow-up emails and team texts
Quotes by phone Gives ballpark quotes from your pricing if you add Instant Estimator ($149/month, or $125/month billed yearly)

Will callers know it's AI? Roofr's own answer is "some will, and some won't." It introduces itself as your business. Roofr says it doesn't promise it passes for human every time.

What it costs in practice: a roofer on Roofr's free plan pays $99 a month, or $85 billed yearly. A shop on Essentials ($249/month, or $209 billed yearly) pays $348 a month for the CRM plus the receptionist on monthly billing. If you'd also want phone quotes, add Instant Estimator.

Broccoli: what the Series B means

Broccoli builds AI agents that answer inbound calls, book jobs, run outbound follow-up, coach call-center staff and handle chat and scheduling. Its site lists roofing among the trades it serves, alongside HVAC, plumbing, electrical, solar, pest control, garage doors and cleaning. It integrates with ServiceTitan, Housecall Pro, Salesforce and AccuLynx, a roofing CRM (Broccoli).

Per Tech Startups' report (Tech Startups):

  • $30 million Series B led by Khosla Ventures, with Y Combinator and Operator Partners, for about $53.5 million raised in total
  • more than 1,500 businesses use it, including Ace Hardware Home Services, Mr. Electric and Any Hour Group, according to the company
  • the company says revenue has tripled since its Series A

Broccoli was founded by AJ Jain and Aditya Ketkar and went through Y Combinator (Y Combinator). In their letter to customers, the founders list features customers asked for, including a Spanish-speaking agent, dispatch fee rules and outbound campaigns that reach past customers six and nine months after a job (Broccoli).

Broccoli doesn't publish prices. You'll need a sales call. Its customer list skews toward larger operators, so it's aimed at multi-truck shops with a call center more than a two-person roofing crew.

If you're a roofer already on Roofr, the add-on is the obvious one to trial: your calls land in the same system as your measurements, proposals and invoices. If you're on AccuLynx or ServiceTitan with a team taking calls, Broccoli is worth a demo. For everyone else, see our best AI receptionists for contractors and the AI receptionist cost calculator.

What to check before you forward your phones

  1. Call recording consent. Roofr saves a full transcript of every call. In states that require everyone on a call to consent to recording, such as California and Florida, the greeting needs to say the call is recorded. Our guide to AI receptionist call recording laws covers each state.
  2. Outbound calls need consent. If you use an AI agent to call or text leads and past customers, as Broccoli's outbound campaigns do, the FCC treats AI-generated voices as "artificial" voices under the TCPA. Those calls need the person's prior express consent (FCC). See TCPA opt-out rules for AI texting.
  3. Storm-season volume. 200 minutes is about 65 three-minute calls a month. After a hailstorm you could use that in a day. Roofr isn't charging overages now but says that could change, so check your usage dashboard.
  4. Insurance-claim questions. Homeowners after a storm ask about coverage and deductibles. Decide what the AI may say, and route claim questions to a person.
  5. Test it like a homeowner. Use the 30-day trial. Call with a leak emergency, a repair, a full replacement, a Spanish-speaking caller and a spam call, then read the transcripts.
  6. Know your escape route. Write down how to switch call forwarding back, in case the AI misbehaves on a busy day.
