What happened: in early February 2026, Intuit confirmed that QuickBooks Online Accountant (QBOA) would be discontinued in December and replaced by Intuit Accountant Suite, which it calls an "AI-native" platform for managing a firm, its clients and its team (CPA Practice Advisor, Feb 9, 2026). Intuit's own accountant page now says QBOA retires on December 31, 2026 (Intuit).

Why it matters right now: that's under three months away. Firms that do nothing are moved to the free Core plan automatically, but consolidating logins, mapping staff permissions and deciding on paid tiers takes planning.

The pricing timeline moved. February coverage said Accelerate would become paid on May 1, 2026, at $149 a month. Intuit later extended the free beta to January 19, 2027 (Insightful Accountant). Intuit's Canadian page lists Accelerate at $145 a month and Books Close at a per-client rate from January 20, 2027 (Intuit Canada). Check your own region's pricing before the beta ends.

The AI features ("Intuit Intelligence")

Intuit's AI layer runs across the suite (Intuit Canada; Intuit UK, May 2026):

  • AI chat over firm and client data, in beta, with question caps (for example 200 on Core and 1,000 on Accelerate in the UK)
  • Automated categorization that flags items for your review, with client questions sent from the transaction feed
  • Client Insights (Accelerate) that monitor your portfolio for trends and anomalies
  • Anomaly detection in Books Close, with you approving any fix

These are review-based tools: the AI flags, you decide. That matches what tax and accounting professionals need for client data rules. See our guide to IRS and FTC rules on AI and client data.

A 6-step migration checklist

  1. Consolidate logins first. Clients spread across several QBOA logins can be orphaned. Use Intuit's console consolidation before the switch (Insightful Accountant).
  2. Rebuild staff access. Old roles don't map cleanly to the new user groups. Test permissions rather than trusting automatic mapping (Beancount).
  3. Check bank feeds after the move, and reconnect any that dropped.
  4. Decide on paid tiers deliberately. If you trial Accelerate or Books Close, put January 19, 2027 in the calendar. Downgrade before January 20 if you don't want to pay.
  5. Keep a ProAdvisor-certified person on the team ahead of the new partner program.
  6. Pick your timing. Opt in early and learn the new console at a quiet time, rather than being moved automatically at year-end.

FAQ

Do I have to pay for Intuit Accountant Suite?

No. Core is free, and firms that take no action are moved to it. Accelerate and Books Close are optional paid add-ons after the beta.

Will my clients' data move automatically?

Yes. Client data transfers whichever tier you choose. The risks are in logins, permissions and bank feeds, not the books themselves.

What happens to the ProAdvisor Program?

Intuit says it will be replaced in January 2027 by a new tiered global partner program built into Accountant Suite.
