What happened: at the end of September 2026, LinkedIn announced Hiring Assistant 2, an upgrade to its recruiting AI agent with memory of how you hire, voice pre-screening, verification signals and more explanation of why candidates match (HR Dive, Oct 2, 2026). A competitor's analysis reports it rolls out to existing Hiring Assistant customers from November 2026 at no extra charge (HeroHunt).

Why it matters today: Hiring Assistant is LinkedIn's bet that recruiters will hand off sourcing and first-round screening to an agent. LinkedIn says more than 20,000 companies now use its agentic hiring tools (HR Dive).

What it does

  • Builds criteria from a job description's must-haves and nice-to-haves, refined in plain language (Recruiting News Network)
  • Sources candidates and explains which skills match
  • Drafts personalized outreach
  • Pre-screens with basic questions on competency, work authorization and location, now including voice
  • Remembers your preferences (version 2), such as location, industry and seniority patterns from past hires (HR Dive)
  • Evaluates ATS candidates alongside LinkedIn members: Greenhouse, Lever, SmartRecruiters, Zoho Recruit and others are listed, with iCIMS and Workday described as coming (HeroHunt)

LinkedIn's reported results from early users: 4+ hours saved per role, 62% fewer profiles reviewed, and higher InMail acceptance (LinkedIn). These are LinkedIn's own figures, not independent measurements.

The compliance questions

Sourcing is low-risk. Pre-screening and match scoring are where hiring laws start to apply:

  1. NYC: if fit scores substantially help decide who advances, ask whether the tool counts as an automated employment decision tool needing a bias audit (NYC DCWP; our guide).
  2. California: automated-decision rules cover agents of employers and require keeping records for four years (our guide).
  3. Colorado, from January 2027: notice, explanations and human review for covered tools (our guide).
  4. Litigation trend: lawsuits against Workday and Eightfold target scoring and screening (our explainer).

Practical rule: let the agent find and message people, but have a recruiter decide who's rejected, and document it.
